NEW YORK (Reuters) – The Kansas City Chiefs may have thwarted the Eagles’ Super Bowl hopes two years ago but Philadelphia receiver DeVonta Smith said on Friday he had no problem setting aside his nerves before their rematch next month in the Big Easy.
Eagles fans are still hurting from their 38-35 defeat in Super Bowl 57, where Smith had seven receptions for 100 yards as Philadelphia let a 10-point halftime lead slip away.
While he said he has replayed the game in his mind many times, Smith is keeping his cool ahead of his home Super Bowl at the Superdome in New Orleans, having grown up in the nearby town of Amite City, Louisiana.
“You think about it all the time, especially you know playing them again, playing the same team, you think about it,” Smith told reporters. “It’s the next team trying to stop us from getting to our end goal.”
Smith did not participate in Friday’s practice, with the injury report citing his hamstring, but he assured reporters that he would be in good shape for the Feb. 9 championship.
“As long as we go out there, play our game, continuing to play football the way we’ve been playing it, we should come out successful,” said Smith.
