MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A challenge to the partial veto power of Wisconsin’s governor.
In July, Governor Tony Evers expanded a per-pupil funding increase for schools from two years to 400 years by crossing out some numbers.
Monday, the business group Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce filed a suit before the state’s Supreme Court claiming Evers’ maneuver violated the state’s Constitution.
The group’s Nick Novak spoke about the court action.
“No governor in Wisconsin has the authority to use a Vanna White or pick a letter veto to eliminate certain letters or certain digits or numbers to create new words and new numbers,” said Novak.
Previous governors Jim Doyle and Scott Walker also used the partial veto to alter legislation to their advantage.
The court hasn’t said if it’ll take-up the case.
